My Marae Writting

Wharenui

The parts of a wharenui are...

  • Head/Koruru
  • maihi/Arms
  • raparapa/hands
  • heke/ribs
  • heart/poutokomanawa
  • Spine/tahuhu

A wharenui represents an ancestor. A wharenui is like a book
because every carving has a story. A wharenui is also like a
classroom because it has a lot of history so it is interesting to
learn about. In a wharenui there are pictures of people who
have passed away. If there was a bad storm or there was a big
fire and the wharenui wasn't damaged then they would let
people whose house was damaged come and stay at the
marae as long as they needed for free. This happened after
the kaikoura earthquake. These are reasons why the wharenui
is important.

  1. Kia ora Noah. Well done for using your writing skills and drawing skills to share your learning about wharenui. Your diagram was very well done. In your writing you had some good punctuation and spelling. Your next step is to add more detail and to use paragraphs.
